5 Steps to A Peaceful Morning
As a Mom of 4 children 3 of which are under 5….mornings used to be quite chaotic and I would end up overwhelmed, frustrated, and late if we had to be somewhere.
To give you perspective it would be at the point where I was yelling at my children to get in the car, fighting with shoes, you name it and it went wrong. It got to a point that I hated to go anywhere.
Over the last year and half I have worked to overcome the stresses of our morning routines. Yes the days that we don’t have any commitments are more relaxed, but overall I am not that crazy lady….ready to pull her hair out as we get ready to leave the house.
The areas that have vastly improved my mornings have to do with a few very important steps and it’s all about sticking to those routines that makes for stress free mornings.

1. Have A Great Evening Routine- That’s right I have a routine every evening that sets me up for success the following morning. It includes things like having a clean kitchen, coffee pot set up, checking our calendar, setting up bags, etc
2. Get Up Before Your Children– I personally get up anywhere from 1-2 hours before my kids. This allows me to work, workout, shower, drink my coffee in peace with quiet time, read. But it makes a huge difference for me to have some calm before the storm. I recommend at minim get up at least half hour before your children so you can at least have coffee in peace.
3.Prep Breakfast Food Ahead Of Time– On the weekends I like to make big breakfasts for my family…. I double up my batch of french toast and pancakes, make muffins, and even egg cups. This way I can give my kids a healthy breakfast without a lot of effort. Yes they do eat cereal some mornings.
4.Give The Children Responsibilities In The Morning.- My 3 & 5 year old dress themselves, brush their teeth and I brush their hair. Unless I declare it a pj day they get dressed before breakfast. Having our capsule wardrobe helps with this as well.
5.Have A Plan!– At breakfast, I go over with my children what we are doing that day. If they know what to expect then it makes my life easier.
Even when we travel we keep to the same routine as much as possible. All of us wake up the same time every day. Even on days we don’t have commitments I don’t let them sleep more than a half hour past our normal wake up times.
