How To Turn Chaos Into Joy
That’s right you read the title to this blog correctly. How does a 17 month old end up soaked in his 3 year old sister’s urine. Well….it happened like this my morning was going so nice workout done, breakfast with hubby done, journaling and quiet time done! Wow I was hitting the groove this morning….so much so that I pulled out my ear buds and started to whip up some pancakes for the kids while I was jamming to some music.
I pulled out the pan got it heated up…meanwhile all my munchkins started waking up….the baby was playing with an inside ball, M (my 4 year old was getting dressed for the day), then K was in the bathroom. I thought MAN I am rocking this mom thing this morning! BOY was I wrong….and totally humbled in the next few minutes! As I poured the batter into the pan for pancakes, I hear my 3 year old screaming for me. She can be quite the dramatic one….thinking she needed some help to get her bottoms up in the bathroom I headed that direction.
What I walked into was so wrong…apparently my 3 year old had missed getting to the toilet and on the floor was a massive amount of urine and to make matters worse the baby had fell in it. He was now soaked from head to toe in urine and proceeded to splash in it.
Thinking I got this…I started calming everyone down and begin to take care of the mess! Then I smell something burning on the stove. Oh man ….the pancakes were burning! I rushed into the kitchen to turn off the stove. Thinking the rest of the time ….that I don’t truly have this mom thing down and why can’t I get these mornings to be smooth! My inner voice started on it’s negative self -talk.
Then I remember the following : your day is what you make of it. I dumped the burnt pancakes in the trash, walked into find my 4 year old pulling out towels to help clean up the mess and my heart burst with pride. Then I began to bathe the baby and clean up my 3 year old. In this moment I looked around and saw the following: the humor in the situation, the helpful 4 year old, and my two younger ones laughing in the tub. I choose JOY!
Joy comes in many forms but in this moment JOY was found in a pee accident on the floor. In the end we finished our pancakes…I had my coffee, and we called Daddy to tell him the funny story.
Lessons learned this morning..
1. Even when your day starts out fantastic if you have little kids something is bound to take detour.
2. Look for Joy in the ordinary & chaos of life
3. You can choose your reaction to the situation.
Mama, when you find yourself faced with chaos remember the Joy in the madness and chaos of life.
